A Message from Rose Pascarell, Vice President for University Life

October 24, 2017 | Filed under: Mason Family Flash

Students with VP of University Life, Rose Pascarell
Dear Mason Family Members,

As I look out my window at the soon-to-be-open Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall and reflect on the continuing growth of George Mason, I am gratified to have the opportunity to connect with you as we reach mid-semester. We are proud to welcome our largest incoming class ever, and I am equally proud of our continuing efforts to individually engage our students – your student – in discovering their interests, passions, and strengths in the world.

This is a dynamic time in our country to be a college student – and an equally interesting time to be the parent or chosen family member of a Mason student. As our nation deals with issues of social justice, freedom of expression, and safety, college campuses are increasingly providing opportunities for significant dialogue and opportunities to grow and develop as individuals. Fundamentally, we work to support the success of all Mason students throughout their academic career, creating purposeful opportunities and communities that foster student learning, involvement and engagement. Additionally, we hold our students to high standards of personal conduct. All of these efforts culminate to create a culture at Mason that promotes well-being, personal development, and safety.

As Mason Families, we want to ensure that you are also involved, informed, and empowered to help us create this culture of safety. Information regarding safety announcements may often come from varying outlets including the Mason Alert system, Timely Warnings, the Daily Crime and Fire Log, the Environmental Health and Safety News and Highlights, and email messages that are periodically sent to students from the President, Provost, or Vice President. These announcements are available on our website for families, masonfamily.gmu.edu. You can also find resources on becoming Mason Ready (to prepare yourself for situations that may arise on campus) at ready.gmu.edu. Please do check these pages to stay abreast of the safety updates and other family resource information that Mason distributes throughout the year.

Finally, we ask that you join us in supporting our efforts to create a culture of well-being and safety among our Mason community. Let your student know that you support their development and success at Mason. Encourage them to reach out to us if they have questions or want a little extra assistance. Again, we appreciate your partnership with us and your commitment to your student’s success.

Sincerely,

Rose Pascarell
Vice President
University Life
