Counseling and Psychological Services prioritizes access to effective mental health care and learning services. We serve as an entry point for students to work with experts in college mental health who assess concerns and connect students with appropriate services on and off campus. We provide excellence in psychological and learning services by promoting student safety, enhancing emotional growth, and supporting academic success while celebrating the diversity found within our community.
Counseling and Psychological Services provides a wide range of free services to students, faculty, and staff. Services are provided by a staff of licensed clinical psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, learning specialists, and a psychiatrist. Our individual and group therapy, workshops, online self-help, and community education programs are designed to enhance students’ personal experience and academic performance. We also provide crisis consultation, time limited medication management, online self-help, and referrals to long-term providers in the community.

Disability Services’ mission is to promote equal accessfor students with disabilities in curricular and co-curricular activities within the university experience and empowerstudentsto fully participate in the university community.

Let us keep your kids safe and entertained while you enjoy working out at the Freedom Center, located on Mason’s Science and Technology Campus! The Kid Kare Center provides care for children ages 6 months to 11 years of age. Maximum stay is 2 consecutive hours per day. All staff is required to complete First Aid training. Supervisors have First Aid and CPR certifications. Maximum ratios are 5-1 for the Nursery and 12-1 in the Activity room. Reservations are strongly recommended!
Freedom Preschool offers morning and afternoon preschool classes for 3 and 4-year-olds and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Preschool classes feature a comprehensive curriculum, focusing on the development of social, intellectual and physical skills. The Curriculum includes a developmentally age appropriate physical education program.

The George Mason University Child Development Center was established to support university faculty, staff, and students by providing an excellent on-site child care and play based preschool program. The center is located at the edge of campus, off University Drive close to Rappahannock River parking deck. Our preschool program currently serves families with children 2-5 years of age and is open from 7 am until 6 pm Monday-Friday. Mason families receive a 10% discount on tuition.
The staff of the CDC is committed to caring and educating children in a positive emotional and social environment that is cognitively stimulating and that supports each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family arrangement. Our teachers incorporate the latest research and best practices as they respond to the needs of each individual student. Teachers encourage the children’s explorations in a nurturing atmosphere with a variety of invitations, inspiring the children to discover how things work; to learn about living things and their community; and to enjoy music, art, and dramatic play activities.
The center also offers a Kids Club for kids 6-11 on days schools are closed and during the summer.

Student Health Services provides accessible and affordable health care to all currently enrolled Mason students in a caring and confidential environment. We offer a wide variety of services to keep our community healthy. From diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, to immunizations and prescriptions, to nutrition counseling and physical exams, Student Health Services is here for Mason students. There is no charge to be seen by one of our healthcare providers. There are fees for lab tests, immunizations, medications, supplies, physical exams, procedures, and some office visits.
Regarding women’s health, Student Health Services provides annual exams. Our doctors and nurse practitioners also provide evaluation and treatment of gynecological concerns, including urinary tract infections and menstrual irregularities. We can discuss issues and concerns related to women’s health and sexual health, including birth control options and pregnancy counseling.
George Mason University makes health insurance available to eligible students through UnitedHealthcare StudentResources. The Student Health Insurance Plan has been developed especially for Mason students, however, individual students might benefit from other policies. The plan provides coverage for illnesses and injuries locally and when you travel either domestically or abroad and is accepted by many local healthcare providers.
