It’s not too late to find off-campus housing

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the summer! If you are still looking for off-campus housing for your student for this fall, the 4th of July holiday can bring about nervousness and anxiety. However, students still searching should know that there are resources and opportunities for you to find a new home before classes start this fall.

First, check out our online resources for finding housing. Our online housing database can be found at och.gmu.edu. This website is the only Mason-sponsored off-campus housing website and can connect students with apartments, townhouses, and sublets around all Mason campuses. Students can also use their Mason email address to login and search for roommates. These roommates may have a room available or be wanting to connect to find a new property together. If you have any questions or trouble using the website, please contact us at offcamp1@gmu.edu.

Second, we have multiple resources for how to live off campus affordably, use financial aid for off-campus living, utilizing community legal resources, and more on our website at offcampus.gmu.edu. One of the most helpful resources is the Fairfax County Consumer Affairs Board where you can search for landlord complaints and review your rights as a tenant. We strongly recommend all students, parents, and family members review this BEFORE you sign a lease.

Finally, visit our Off-Campus Housing Fair on Thursday, July 18, from 12:30-2:30pm in the Johnson Center to meet with local properties and utilities to secure your last-minute housing. If you are unable to make this fair and still need help, make an appointment with an Off-Campus Advisor at offcampus.gmu.edu to talk through your specific budgeting and off-campus needs.
