Last chance for your student to snag a job, internship or summer work

Encourage your student to make the most of our Career Launch and Just-In-Time Hiring Fair on Monday, May 20, which is combined this year to help your student make the most of their job search.

University Career Services is offering pre-fair Career Launch workshops to help your student prepare and maximize their potential impact on employers at the fair. All workshops take place in the West Lounge, 3rd floor of the Johnson Center.

Career Launch:  Prepare for the Fair in 3 easy steps!

12 p.m. – Preparing for Today’s Fair
Impress employers with these tips and tricks including how to ask the right questions, follow up after the fair, and stand out in the crowd.

1 p.m. – Making the Most of Handshake in your Job Search
Come learn how to maximize this powerful platform and how to stand out to potential employers before, during and after the Just-In-Time Career Fair!

2 p.m. – Personal Branding: What it is and why you need it
What’s your personal brand? We’ll learn to quickly and effectively communicate your value to an employer and discuss how your online presence can help you at today’s Career Fair and beyond.

Then, your student can head straight to the Just-In-Time Hiring Fair from 3–6 p.m. in Dewberry Hall in the Johnson Center (lower level) to network with more than 70 employers who are ready to hire Mason students and alumni. Companies attending the fair cover the spectrum from IT, healthcare, financial services, business, and law enforcement to summer employers.  The following are examples of employers who have already signed up and more are registering every day: Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies, Amazon Web Services, City Year, Defense Contract Audit Agency, Dept. of Homeland Security, Fairfax County Police, FDM Group, iWorks, Legends, Northwest Federal, Trutech Wildlife. View the entire list at careers.gmu.edu.

Since summer weather is upon us, students are encouraged to wear their best business casual outfit (e.g. khakis, button-down shirt, slacks, or summer dress). It may be helpful to remind them to pull out the iron, too! And, as always, it’s a good idea for them to bring plenty of resumes. Don’t let your student miss this opportunity to connect with employers before the summer!
