Encourage your student to make the most of the Career Launch and Just-In-Time Hiring Fair on Thursday, May 24, which is combined this year to help your student make the most of their job search.
University Career Services is offering pre-fair Career Launch workshops to help your student prepare and maximize their potential impact on employers at the fair. All workshops take place at University Career Services in SUB 1, 3400.
Career Launch: Prepare for the Fair in 3 easy steps!
12 p.m. – Prepare documents
At this workshop, your student will learn to write a targeted resume and cover letter for their job or internship.
1 p.m. – Connect with employers
Your student only has one chance to make a good first impression. Developing a personal pitch and conducting research makes for better connections.
2 p.m. – Get ready to interview
Students will learn how to use the STAR (Situation, Task, Actions, Results) technique to enhance their job and internship interviews.
Then, your student can head straight to the Just-In-Time Hiring Fair from 3–6 p.m. in Dewberry Hall in the Johnson Center to network with more than 40 employers who are ready to hire Mason students and alumni. Companies attending the fair cover the spectrum from IT, healthcare, financial services, business, and law enforcement to summer employers. AT&T, Aveanna Healthcare, Eagle Technologies, Inc. HireCoder Inc., Key Media & Research, Navy Mutual Aid Association, New York Life have already registered and more are signing up! View the entire list at careers.gmu.edu.
Since summer weather is upon us, students are encouraged to wear their best business casual outfit (e.g. khakis, button-down shirt, slacks, or summer dress). It may be helpful to remind them to pull out the iron, too! And, as always, it’s a good idea for them to bring plenty of resumes. Don’t let your student miss this opportunity to connect with employers before the summer!
