On and Off Campus Housing: December Events

Fairfax campus

The conclusion of another semester means you and your student are likely thinking about winter break move-out, off-campus housing options, and beginning to plan for future semesters of housing. We want to provide you and your student with some helpful information about both on and off-campus housing items to be thinking about during the month of December.

On-Campus Residence Hall Closures
Most campus residence halls will close at 6 p.m. on December 20, 2016. Students leaving for the winter break are encouraged to take valuables (passport, medication, jewelry, electronics, etc.) home with them. If your student plans to return to the same room after the break, they will not need to remove any belongings or check out with the residence hall staff. Residents should plan to leave 24 hours after their last exam or by 6 p.m. on December 20, whichever comes first.

The following building will remain open during winter break:

Eastern Shore
Liberty Square
Potomac Heights
Student Apartments
Whitetop
Hampton Roads
Mason global Center
Rogers
Taylor
Jackson
Northern Neck
Roosevelt
Townhouses

Returning to Campus
All campus residences will reopen at 10 a.m. on January 20, 2017. There is no early arrival available for the spring semester. For more information, visit https://housing.gmu.edu/residence-halls/hall-closings.

Off-Campus Housing Options
If your student is living off campus or planning to live off campus during the next academic year, encourage him or her to stop by the Off-Campus Housing Fair on Monday, December 12 from 2 – 4:30 p.m in Dewberry lobby (bottom floor of the Johnson Center).

During the Off-Campus Housing Fair representatives from roughly 20 local apartment communities will be present with property information and to answer any questions your student may have about moving and/or living off-campus. There will also be representatives from Off-Campus Student Programs and Services to address concerns about budgeting, leases, and transitioning to off-campus housing.

For more information on the Off-Campus Housing Fair or Off-Campus Student Programs and Services, visit http://offcampus.gmu.edu/off-campus-housing-fair/.

If your student is unable to attend the fair and would like to speak with a staff member of Off-Campus Student Programs and Services, they can make an appointment at http://offcampus.gmu.edu/schedule-advising/ or by emailing offcamp1@gmu.edu.  Off-Campus staff members will be available until December 21 and again on January 9, 2017.
