The Patriot Leader position is a highly visible role within the Mason community. 35 Patriot Leaders, or PLs as we like to call them, will serve as a virtual guide for our incoming students and families through their transition into Mason as representatives of New Student and Family Programs through our virtual summer orientations. They will be involved in other campus initiatives at the start of the fall semester such as the Preamble and Welcome2Mason and events throughout the fall semester such as Family Weekend.
PLs serve as role models to new students and each other by serving as a virtual guide for new students and their family members. During a virtual orientation session, students will have the opportunity to directly connect with the PLs through synchronous small group sessions. PLs will also be serving as a resource for students during academic advising and course registration. Throughout the summer, we encourage PLs and students to stay connected with each other by utilizing the Mason360 engagement app, email, or even social media.
The PLs have received extensive training in the spring semester focusing on leadership and identity development, teambuilding, communication skills, and diversity and inclusion. These skills will be very helpful in our new virtual orientation environment.
Representing several different majors, states, countries, and backgrounds, we believe that the makeup of the PL team represents Mason’s strengths and embodies Mason’s idea of diversity as well. Please help us recognize the 2020 Patriot Leader team!
