First-Generation Families

George Mason University serves a diverse population. One growing group in this population are students who will be the first in their family to attend college. By definition, first generation college students are those who come from families in which their parents did not graduate from a four-year college or university in the United States.

This website is designed to share useful information for those who are about to face the new and exciting challenge of being the first in their family to attend college.
