Academic Advising and Transfer Center
The Center for Academic Advising, Retention and Transitions advises undergraduate undeclared students, transfer students, and students who are thinking about changing majors. For more information, visit advising.gmu.edu.

Academic Calendar
The academic calendar includes university academic deadlines, the final exam schedule, financial deadlines, and university-wide class cancellations. The current academic calendar can be found online by visiting registrar.gmu.edu/calendars.

Admissions
Admitted freshmen who intend to enroll at Mason must request that their final high school transcript, reflecting their graduation date, be sent to the Office of Admissions. Alumni Association
The Alumni Association’s mission is to strengthen the university by engaging alumni through fellowship, programs, and services that encourage active participation in the university community. The Alumni Association also offers a great deal to currently enrolled students (our future alumni), including career networking opportunities, events, and scholarships. Athletics
Mason competes in NCAA Division I athletics. With 22 men’s and women’s sports teams, students have many opportunities to watch the Mason Patriots in action! Campuses
Academic programs, including their course offerings, may reside at one or more of Mason’s campuses, i.e., Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William, or the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation in Front Royal, Virginia. The Fairfax campus is the largest of the campuses, and is home to most of the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs. In March 2014, the university opened a campus in Songdo, South Korea. 

Career Services
Career Services gives students access to experienced career advisors and powerful resources to help them start exploring majors and careers. Career Services offers career counseling, internship and job search assistance, résumé critiques, interview preparation, online seminars, opportunities to engage with employers and more. Cashier’s Office
The Cashier’s Office is the payment center for tuition and other relevant fees for the university. While the office maintains walk-in lobby hours for student check and cash payments, the university encourages students to pay their accounts online using the Bill and Payment System located at patriotweb.gmu.edu. There is no convenience fee for check payments; however, a fee is charged for credit card payments. For more information, visit fiscal.gmu.edu.

Center for the Arts
George Mason University’s Center for the Arts on Mason’s Fairfax Campus presents the Great Performances at Mason season, featuring performances in classical and popular music, opera, modern dance, ballet, theater, and global music and dance, as well as performances and exhibitions by the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The Free Tickets for Mason Students program provides many opportunities for Mason students to become part of the spirited professional and university-sponsored performances at its venues. Class Registration
Students register for classes online using the Patriot Web system during their assigned registration period. Students are required to meet with their academic advisor prior to signing up for classes to ensure that they are meeting all university and major requirements. Commencement
The annual university Commencement ceremony celebrates the graduation of Mason students and is open to all fall, spring, and summer graduation applicants (except doctoral students). Counseling and Psychological Services
Counseling and Psychological Services provides a wide range of services to students, including individual and group counseling, learning services, workshops, and outreach programs that are designed to enhance students’ personal experience and academic performance. Dean of Students
The Dean of Students Office maintains a balance between protecting the rights and safety of all students and providing a process that addresses students’ educational and developmental needs. The office also responds to student crises and provides information and referrals for students, faculty, and staff on a variety of student-related issues. Dining
Mason Dining serves the university community by operating over 30 restaurants on the Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, and Front Royal campuses, as well as providing catering services to the university and the public. Disability Services
Disability Services collaborates with students who have documented disabilities to provide reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services that are individualized and based on disability documentation, functional limitations, and a collaborative assessment of needs. Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education engages various Mason constituents in awareness and exploration of the diversity of our campus community, identity development, and global and cultural competencies. Drop/Add
Students may make changes to their academic schedules via Patriot Web until published drop and add deadlines. “Drop” refers to removing a class that is no longer wanted, and “add” refers to registering for an additional course. Students must be aware that dropping and adding classes after the published deadlines may have financial implications, such as the loss of financial aid and additional fees. Drug and Alcohol Policy
The university’s drug and alcohol policy reflects local, state, and federal laws. The Office of Student Conduct addresses referrals for alleged violations related to alcohol and drug use. Mason’s drug and alcohol policies can be found online at studentconduct.gmu.edu.

Early Identification Program
The Early Identification Program is a year-round college preparatory program for first-generation college-bound middle and high school students. Through academic enrichment programs, mentoring, parental involvement, and leadership workshops, students are equipped with the appropriate resources to succeed in college. Enrollment Central
Enrollment Central is a walk-up desk on the lower level of Student Union Building I where several enrollment services have been grouped into one convenient location. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights with respect to their educational records. These rights include the right to inspect and review the student’s educational records, the right to request an amendment of the student’s educational records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading, the right to provide written consent before the university discloses personally identifiable information from the student’s educational records, and the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Mason to comply with FERPA requirements. Financial Aid
After a student’s eligibility for financial aid is determined, that assistance may be applied toward the student’s educational expenses, such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. The types of financial aid available are grants and scholarships, federal work-study, and loans. Financial aid is determined based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be completed online at www.fafsa.gov. Please note that students need to complete and submit this form each year that they wish to apply for financial aid. Mason’s priority filing date for the FAFSA is March 1. Students are assigned a Financial Aid Counselor, based on the student’s last name, to whom students can direct their financial aid questions. For more information, financialaid.gmu.edu.

G Number
All Mason students are assigned a G number, which is a unique ID number that identifies students as members of the Mason community. Students are automatically mailed a G number upon admission to Mason. A student may retrieve his or her G number by contacting the Information Technology Unit Support Center. George Mason
One of the greatest founding fathers of the United States, George Mason drafted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which became the model for the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights. Perhaps the most well-known landmark on the Fairfax Campus, the George Mason bronze statue, is located between the Johnson Center and the DeLaski Performing Arts Building. Grading Policies
Students may view their grades and current grade point averages (GPA) via Patriot Web. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA each semester to be considered in good academic standing. Educational records, such as grades, are available only to students (see FERPA) and are not mailed home. For more information, visit registrar.gmu.edu/registration/grading.

Health Insurance
Eligible students may enroll in the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan during their time at Mason. All Mason students are eligible to see a provider at Student Health Services whether they have the university plan or not. Homecoming
Each February Mason holds Homecoming – a weeklong celebration that encompasses a variety of events, including a pep rally and student competitions that boost Patriot Pride! Honor Code
To promote a stronger sense of mutual responsibility, respect, trust, and fairness among all members of the Mason community, the Honor Code was created. Students pledge not to cheat, plagiarize, steal, or lie in matters related to academic work. For more information, visit oai.gmu.edu.

Housing and Residence Life
The Office of Housing and Residence Life provides a safe, respectful, student-centered home for more than 6,000 students who reside on campus. A variety of educational and social programs and activities, ranging from formalized Living Learning Communities to impromptu movie nights, are offered weekly and nightly for residents to capitalize on the on-campus living experience.

In addition, the 24-hour service desks located across campus allow students to contact professional staff; submit maintenance requests; borrow games, vacuums, and lockout keys; and manage their housing assignment changes. For more information, visit housing.gmu.edu.

Hylton Performing Arts Center
Located on Mason’s Prince William Campus, the Hylton Performing Arts Center features performances that include folk and bluegrass music, ballet, theater, comedy, classical music, country music, global music, and dance, as well as the Hylton Family Series, featuring performances for families with younger children. ID
Mason identification cards allow students access to university services and resources. The Mason ID is valid as long as class registration is in place and can be used for student dining, printing services, library services, and access to resources such as recreational facilities and sporting events. It also serves as a prepaid declining balance card, which accesses the student’s Mason Money account. Lost or stolen ID cards should be reported to the Mason Card Office immediately. Immunization Policies
All incoming students are required to submit a complete immunization record by the posted deadline (October 1, for summer and fall admits, March 1 for spring admits). Failure to meet this deadline will incur a fee and a hold will be placed on the student’s account. For information and forms, visit shs.gmu.edu/immunizations.

International Programs and Services
The Office of International Programs and Services educates, celebrates, and serves the Mason community by emphasizing cross-cultural understanding, global issues and themes, and provides quality service and resources to assist with cultural adjustment and regulatory compliance. Information Technology Unit Support Center
The Information Technology Unit Support Center, a department of Technology Support Services, serves as the central point of contact for the university community for requesting information technology support or information. Johnson Center
The Johnson Center has eight acres of floor space and houses and houses a library that supports undergraduate and new student success through resources, services and programs. The library also has a collection of more than 129,000 volumes including required textbooks for required courses, a media center with over 45,000 items, multiple computer labs, a credit union/ATM, bookstore, convenience store, computer store, and food services. Leadership Education and Development
The Leadership Education and Development Office works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to provide leadership education, training, and development for students at all levels of leadership development.  Programs provide opportunities to develop a strong sense of self, augment critical thinking and interpersonal skills, develop global and cultural competencies, and cultivate organizational skills for transition into the world beyond Mason. For more information, visit lead.gmu.edu.

Learning Services
Part of Counseling and Psychological Services, Learning Services provides students study strategies workshops, individual academic skills counseling, the Academic Skills Certificate program, online media offerings, and information related to campus tutoring resources. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resources

Libraries
Five libraries are located on three of the university’s distributed campuses—Arlington Campus Library and Mason School of Law Library at Arlington; Fenwick Library and Gateway Library, located in the Johnson Center, at Fairfax, and Mercer Library at Prince William. Mail Services
Mail Services for the University is located in the lower level of the Hub. Students residing on campus can activate a Postal Mail Box by visiting our customer service windows at the Hub location. Mail Services also features Patriot Postal, a full service mail and packaging center at the Hub location, and a full service Postal Kiosk in the Johnson Center. Majors
Mason offers 82 undergraduate degree programs, including many innovative interdisciplinary programs that allow students to design personalized courses of study with faculty guidance. Students should declare a major by the time they have earned 60 credits. To declare a major, students should complete a Change/Declaration of Academic Program form, which can be found at registrar.gmu.edu.

Mason Alert Emergency Notification System
Mason Alert is the University’s official emergency notification system. Mason Alert is used to issue emergency alerts and other important announcements that may affect your safety. All George Mason students and employees are automatically enrolled in Mason Alert when assigned a university email address. Family members can opt in to receiving alerts by creating an account online. For more information or to create an account, alert.gmu.edu.

Mason Money
Mason Money is a prepaid debit program that provides a convenient and secure way for students to make purchases on and off campus at participating merchants using the Mason ID. Deposits can be made online, via the Mason Money smart phone app, at any of the nine kiosks located on all campuses, and in person at the Mason Money Office. Meal Plan
Mason Dining offers the Anytime Dining meal plan, featuring unlimited access to the resident dining halls during operating hours and prepaid Bonus Dollars for all retail locations.  On-campus freshmen and all students without a kitchen in their dorm are required to have Anytime Dining.  Voluntary meal plans are also available for off-campus students and on-campus students with a kitchen.  To add or change meal plans, please visit the Meal Plan Office in Student Union Building 1. Military Services
The mission of the Office of Military Services is to assist veterans, active duty service members, guardsmen, reservists, and their dependents in making a successful transition into the Mason community. Off-Campus Student Programs and Services
Off-Campus Student Programs and Services is dedicated to connecting off-campus students with services available at Mason and off campus housing resources. Ombudsman
The Office of the Ombudsman is a neutral, independent, informal, and confidential resource for students who have concerns within the university. The Office of the Ombudsman is a valuable resource for students to discuss concerns and complaints, and serves as a safe space to facilitate the resolution of conflicts. Orientation and Family Programs and Services
The mission of Orientation and Family Programs and Services is to effectively serve incoming students, off-campus students, and families of Mason by providing a cohesive orientation, supportive systems, purposeful experiences, and an empowered student leader team that contribute to social engagement, academic success, and, ultimately, student retention. Parent and Family Council

Parking Services
If your student will be commuting to Mason or living on campus with a car, a parking permit must be purchased for the vehicle or students can use visitor parking. Parking is enforced at all times unless otherwise noted. Permits can be purchased online and will be mailed to the address provided. The Patriot
The Patriot is the official mascot of George Mason University. He can be seen entertaining Patriot fans of all ages at sporting events and other university traditions such as Homecoming and Orientation. 

Patriot Center
Located on Mason’s Fairfax Campus, the Patriot Center is a 10,000-seat venue that hosts Mason basketball games, world-class concerts, comedians, and a variety of other sports and entertainment events throughout the year. For a list of upcoming events, visit patriotcenter.com.

Patriot Tech
Located in the Johnson Center, Patriot Tech is an on-site computer retail store offering the best prices for student’s electronic needs. Police and Public Safety
The George Mason University Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency, nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The force of 58 state-certified sworn officers, which is supplemented by non-sworn security officers and student cadets, patrols campus and all university-owned property by foot, bicycle, and police cruiser 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Preamble
The Preamble serves as an introduction to the university and marks the beginning of a student’s journey as a Mason Patriot. This series of events is for incoming students and kicks off starting with new student move-in. For more information, visit welcomeweek.gmu.edu.

Print Services 
Print Services provides copying, printing, and scanning services for the Mason community through their copy centers located on each Mason campus. The largest copy center is located on the first floor of the Johnson Center and provides additional services such as graphic design, wide format printing, banner, laminating, binding, and folding. Pay for print devices and walk up copiers are available to students in academic labs and libraries, and walk up scanners are available in each of the libraries. Recreation
Mason Recreation offers recreational, fitness, and wellness activities for the Mason community. Facilities include the Aquatic and Fitness Center, Skyline Fitness Center, and the RAC (Recreation and Athletic Complex), as well as outdoor fields, tennis courts and pavilion all on the Fairfax campus. Free access to these facilities is available to full-time students, giving them access to a variety of group exercise classes, yoga, Pilates, martial arts, and personal training. Students may also participate in intramural and club sports programs in the spring and fall semesters. Registrar
It is the essential mission of the Office of the University Registrar to implement the academic policy of George Mason University as well as applicable federal and commonwealth laws. Student services include transcript processing, assistance with registration, domicile reclassification (if applicable), grading, degree compliance, and graduation. Scholarships
The Office of Student Financial Aid provides an online scholarship listing for students attending Mason (internal scholarships) provided by the George Mason University Foundation and external scholarships offered by outside companies and agencies. Mason provides merit-based, academic program or major, and athletic scholarships. The George Mason University Scholarship Application is available early spring. Selective Withdrawal
Undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs are eligible to withdraw from a limited number of classes without dean approval and at the student’s own discretion. Students may process a maximum of three such selective withdrawals during their entire undergraduate career at Mason. Any withdrawal will result in a grade of “W” on the student’s transcript. Student requests for selective withdrawals will not be processed retroactively and must be processed by the Registrar’s Office by the selective withdrawal deadline for the course. Shuttles and Buses
Mason’s free shuttle service provides transportation on six different routes to on- and off-campus locations including regional malls, Vienna Metro station, West Campus, the Prince William Campus, and the Burke Centre VRE. The CUE Bus, a city of Fairfax bus service, travels throughout the city of Fairfax and is free with a Mason ID. Mason also offers low-cost buses to regional cities and airports during the Thanksgiving, winter, spring, and summer breaks. Social Action and Integrative Learning
Social Action and Integrative Learning is a community of Mason students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and community partners who are active and passionate collaborators in effecting positive social change. The community of collaborators fosters integrative, innovative, and experiential learning opportunities on campus, regionally, and globally that educate and activate towards a more equitable, just, nonviolent, and sustainable world. Student Code of Conduct
All members of the Mason community are expected to abide by local, state, and federal laws and are held to the behavioral expectations as set forth by the university in the Student Code of Conduct. Mason students are subject to the code from the time of application until the conferral of their degree. The Student Code of Conduct can be found at studentconduct.gmu.edu.

Student Conduct
The Office of Student Conduct is responsible for addressing alleged violations of nonacademic policies. When notification of an alleged violation is received, the office will contact the student to begin the disciplinary process. Student Employment
A great way for students to get connected to Mason is by working on campus. A variety of on-campus and off-campus jobs are available to Mason students through HireMason, a database of employment opportunities. Student Health Services
Student Health Services’ mission is to provide high quality health care to Mason students. From diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, to women’s and men’s health, to immunizations and prescriptions, Student Health Services is available to all students with clinics at Fairfax, Arlington and Prince William campuses. Student Involvement
Through leadership experiences, dynamic events and opportunities, Student Involvement ignites the spirit of campus. Student Media
The Office of Student Media is home to Mason’s student-run news organizations, literary journals and yearbook. Our media outlets include Fourth Estate, the campus print and online news outlet; Mason Cable Network, the student-run cable station located on campus cable, channel 231; and WGMU Radio. Student Support and Advocacy Center
Working in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office, the Office of Student Support and Advocacy Center serves as the primary resource for managing referrals and student issues related to students in distress, and with crisis intervention. Study Abroad
The Center for Global Education provides more than 90 different study-abroad programs in more than 40 different sites around the world that can fulfill many academic requirements. The center offers semester, winter break, summer, and spring break programs. Depending on the program, students may be able to earn internship or course credit, as well as gain valuable experience. Textbooks
The George Mason Bookstore by Barnes & Noble College is the exclusive place on campus for students to find all their college needs. The bookstore can save students up to 50 percent on new, used, rental, and digital textbooks, as well as the hottest styles and trends in Mason gear. Tuition and Fees
The Student Accounts Office provides information on tuition rates and related fees by term online. Students may see their balance due via Patriot Web and may pay tuition through the online Bill and Payment System or in person at the Cashier’s Office by the semester deadline. University 100
University 100 is a small, discussion-based, 1-credit transition course designed specifically for first-year students. Led by a faculty member and an upperclassman peer advisor, University 100 provides valuable information about campus resources, academic skills for success, and ways to get involved on campus. Welcome2Mason occurs during the first ten days of school during the fall semester and encompasses a variety of events designed to welcome and engage all students in the campus community. Wellness, Alcohol, and Violence Education and Services
Wellness, Alcohol, and Violence Education and Services believes students are most successful when happy and healthy and we help them find that balance for themselves. We offer support groups and individual consultations in addition to programming to educate the Mason community about alcohol and drug issues, personal health matters, and interpersonal violence issues (such as stalking, intimate partner violence, or sexual assault). For more information visit waves.gmu.edu.

Women and Gender Studies Center

Writing Center
The Writing Center is a free service available to all Mason writers. Students may sign up for two 45-minute sessions per week (up to 15 each semester) to receive help on academic, creative, personal, and professional writing.
