Beginning July 15, 2020, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is partnering with Protocall Services to provide after-hours crisis services for Mason students. Protocall is a crisis hotline that is staffed by licensed clinicians to provide crisis intervention and referral services from 5pm to 8:30 am Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends.
CAPS has provided Protocall with all information about Mason and our campus – including residence hall locations, campus offices and services, and emergency services in the surrounding area.
If you are a student experiencing a crisis, please call CAPS at 703-993-2380. Between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm you will be connected to the CAPS office. After 5:00pm and on the weekends, you will be directed to “press 1” in order to be connected directly to a Protocall crisis counselor.
Reasons that students may contact Protocall range from anxiety or relationship distress to suicidal ideation or other serious mental health issues. However, if a student is experiencing a medical emergency or is in a life-threatening situation, the student should contact 911 directly, and clearly state the student’s location (on campus or off campus) for an immediate response. Mason Police may also be called for assistance at 703-993-2810.
CAPS is highly invested in the mental health and wellbeing of Mason students. By partnering with Protocall Services, we can expand access to mental health support for students 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
